BARBARA TAYLOR

Hello! I’m Barbara and welcome to my blog LIVING & BEAUTY.

I started dabbling in the world of blogging in 2015 as a way to share my love of interior styling and inspirational spaces, combined with my love of skincare and makeup products, though the balance has shifted more towards to the interiors side of my blog over the past couple of years

My day job is marketing, but midway in my career I took a little detour and pursued a long time ambition to become a make up artist (one that first started with my mum's purple Biba eye shadow and my grandmother's Pond's vanishing cream). So, I parked my then Blackberry for a brush roll and over the next few years, I worked with Space NK Apothecary and at Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh where I developed an in-depth knowledge and total love of amazing beauty products from cult status high profile, brands to amazing niche lines sourced from around the globe.

These days, I am more likely to have a paint brush in my hand than a make up brush. Since moving back to Ireland a few years ago, I have been taking our rental home from drab to fab using budget buys, my keen eye for a charity shop gem and design classics, which I enjoy sharing with you here on my blog and on Instagram  @livingandbeauty

I have always been a very creative person and have had a love of interiors since I was a kid. I used to love going to antique shops with my Mum - anytime we visited a new place we’d find a little shop to have a look round. Growing up, our home was a mix of second-hand finds my Mum picked up from Portobello Market in London and mid-century pieces so I guess my style has come full circle!

My interior style is an ever evolving eclectic mix with an overall Scandi-boho vibe and a touch of industrial. It is not maximalist nor minimalist but somewhere in between.  I love mixing old and new pieces and different textures. I might see an image in a magazine, or find a unique piece in a junk shop and a lightbulb goes off in my head whereby I can visualise it sitting alongside something I already have. I love to breathe new life into an old piece. In that way the things I buy fit together - even if from different style genres and eras. My husband David is a very talented furniture and cabinet maker and has made some of my favourite pieces in our home, like our big reclaimed wood table in the kitchen. I always seek his opinion on a project I am working on, and like myself he is a perfectionist on the finer details.

I guess I subscribe to the old mantra home is where the heart is, and I hope that whether you own your own home or are renting that I can inspire you to make it a reflection of you and your personal style whatever your budget may be.

I hope you enjoy reading it!
